Golden History Moment
In the early 20th century, the state’s newspaper owners and editors vied for the honor of hosting the Colorado Editorial Association. It was a great opportunity to showcase their communities for people who could promote them around the state.

From the August 6, 1914 Colorado Transcript:
EDITORS PLEASED WITH GOLDEN AND ITS SCENIC TRIPS
The annual mid-summer session of the Colorado Editorial association was held in Golden, on Lookout mountain and on Castle Rock last Sunday, and the editors and their wifes and sweethearts were delighted with this city and its wonderful scenic trips.
There were about seventy-five in the party, coming to Golden in a special car by courtesy of the Denver Tramway company.
The trip to the summit of Lookout mountain was by favor of Mr. Vidler, who did everything possible to make the occasion an enjoyable one. A most excellent lunch was provided by members of the Denver Manufacturers association, and that the editors did full justice to the scads of good things goes without saying. The picnic party was held among the pines of Lookout mountain.
After rambling about the hills for a time enjoying the magnificent view the party returned to Golden and then took the famous Castle Rock trip as guests of Charles and A. D. Quaintance, who “personally conducted” the crowd. All present joined in pronouncing the Castle Rock trip all and more than its owners claim for it.
It’s a sure thing that the editors of the state will not forget this meeting for a long time.
