This morning is your last opportunity to visit the Under the M Farm Stand. In celebration of the last market of the year, they’ll have complimentary mimosas, Nespresso, and an apple tart. Visit their website to see what came out of the garden this week. They’ll be open from 9AM-12PM. After that, you’ll have to wait till next year!
Fifty years ago, there was great interest in town as the Gold Apartments on Clear Creek were nearing completion. Apartments were scarce in Golden in 1969, and the 56 one- and two-bedroom apartments filled as fast as the builders could finish them. The project was developed by Winnie and Mayford Peery. (They also developed Peery Parkway and donated the land for Norman D park.)
A year ago, the 49 year old building was on the verge of condemnation, in serious need of new plumbing and other major investment. A local Golden family purchased the building and spent a year bringing it up to code and remodeling the apartments.
The new owners understand the rising cost of living in Golden, and have worked to ensure that the Gold Apartments are “attainable and affordable for the Golden Workforce.” In fact, they offer a special program for Golden Fire, Police, and teachers. They emphasize that the project was completed “with zero city subsidies or funding and is 100% privately funded.”
I haven’t seen the finished apartments, but certainly the location can’t be beat–creek and mountain views in every direction, adjacent to Parfet Park, and super-close to the downtown stores and restaurants. Learn more at their website.
