Encouraging Golden’s Kids to Read

The Golden Library offers many programs to encourage kids to read, beginning with Baby Time and Toddler Time (rhymes, songs, stories, and pre-reading skills) every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

On Friday mornings, they host a Golden Toddler Play Program.  Bring your child and sing, dance, play with toys, scarves, and instruments, and work on their motor skills at the same time!  Registration is required at the Children’s Information Desk.

They’ve started a new program this year–PAWS for reading.  This Saturday, from 11-1, the library will bring in therapy dogs for children to read to.  Dogs are ideal reading companions because they create a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment for sharing book.  If you would like to bring your child to this event, please register ahead of time at the Children’s Information Desk.

The library also has a Young Readers’ Club, which will meet next Monday (the 10th) from 6:30-7:30 PM.  The kids will discuss the book and enjoy activities, games, and fun.  This month’s book is Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School and Other Scary Things.  Kids can pick up a copy at the Children’s Information Desk.
