Golden History Moment

Golden Transcript – November 3, 1975

Election Day was November 4th in 1975, so the Transcript provided the map above to help people find their districts. Then, as now, we alternated between district elections and ward elections. Yesterday, we voted for our four ward councilors. Two years from now, we’ll vote for two district representatives and the Mayor. At that time, we didn’t elect our Mayor–the City Council chose one from among their number. The 1975 ballot included District One, District Two, and an At-Large representative. We eliminated the At-Large position when we began electing our Mayors in 2003.

The map in the paper was a bit hard to read, but I could see that a lot of our current neighborhoods didn’t exist in 1975: Heritage Dells, Stonebridge, Canyon Point, Mesa Meadows, and the whole Coors Tech area. We’ve grown a lot in 46 years!

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
