For the past 25 years, the Golden Urban Renewal Authority has been working to improve the appearance and economic vitality of our historic downtown.  People who didn’t live here 25 years ago might be surprised to learn that downtown was considered “blighted,” and had a high vacancy rate.

GURA’s work is clearly done downtown, so they’re moving on to improve other parts of town, including the Colfax corridor, the area at 24th and Ford, and 8th Street.

We don’t want downtown to backslide, so we now have a new entity, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), which will take on some of the maintenance work and development that GURA has handled in the past.  The DDA will be meeting tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  If you’re interested in seeing what they do, here’s your chance to learn!
