Downtown Development and Sustainability Open House

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will meet tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They will consider a $2000 grant request to help pay for some exterior improvements at the Golden Rock Shop, 700 12th St. They are likely to approve $950 of the requested amount.

They will also review an application for support by the City’s Tourism program, Visit Golden. The application does not specify a dollar amount, but last year the DDA provided $15K. The total budget for Visit Golden in 2018 is $461,500, not including the cost of the City employees who work on the program.

They will discuss a TIF agreement with the owners of the former mortuary at 1100 Washington Avenue, wherein the developers could receive up to $400,000 in incremental property tax rebates (and up to $620,000 including interest) between now and 12/31/38.  By way of comparison, the Buffalo Rose was granted a $250,000 TIF agreement for property tax and a $58,000 TIF agreement for sales tax.

Finally, they will review the discussion they had with GURA last week to consider best ways to spend the $2 million legacy fund left from GURA’s redevelopment of downtown. The most popular ideas were upgrades to Parfet Park and Clear Creek, contributing to the renovation of the Astor House, contributing to an affordable housing project, and buying land downtown to ensure future control of development. To learn more about any of these topics, review the meeting packet….
