This morning’s 10AM Coffee with Two Councilors takes place at the home of Patrick and Lisa Vitry, 618 Golden Eagle Circle (map). As usual, there are many issues to discuss.

The City wants to sell the Astor House, and have been trying to strike a deal to do so. Many citizens are strongly opposed to selling this historic building (and some, of course, are indifferent). This issue will be discussed at both Monday night’s Historic Preservation Board meeting and Thursday night’s City Council meeting.

The purchase of the Coors office building has run into some snags, in the form of larger-than-expected costs to remediate and remodel the building and property. Council recently approved the sale of $25 million worth of Certificates of Participation to fund the purchase and remodeling. They are now learning that the cost will exceed that amount, so staff is looking for additional sources of funding.

There has been much discussion lately about cuts in funding for The Front Porch (senior services) at the Golden Community Center. The “field trips” have been eliminated, as have the first Friday lunches, staff hours have been cut, and there are rumors that the city plans to shutter the senior services entirely.

The Finance Department has at long last released partial lists of expenditures made by the city, but has thusfar resisted publishing the expenses paid with “pcards” (which are used like credit cards by city employees). These expenses added up to $2,527,254.12 in 2018, so the public is certainly entitled to see how that money was spent.

The Golden Super Cruise is tonight. It officially runs from 5-8:30PM on South Golden Road, but you can expect to see classic cars around town all day.
