Dinosaurs, Steam Trains, Food Drive, Xeriscaping, and Fabulous Flowers

This is Boy Scout Day at Dinosaur Ridge.  Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts will have the opportunity to learn geology from more than 80 earth scientists and other volunteers, including certified merit badge counselors.  The general public is also invited to enjoy an extra-educational day at Dinosaur Ridge, between 10 and 3 today!

The Golden mail carriers will be conducting their annual food drive, “Stamp Out Hunger,” today.  Put non-perishable food items in a bag next to your mailbox to be picked up by your mail carrier. The Golden Lions Club will collect it from the Golden Post Office to deliver to the Christian Action Guild. All of your food donations will stay right here in Golden.

The Railroad Museum is celebrating National Train Day today.  Ride behind historic Denver & Rio Grande Western Steam Locomotive No. 346 and explore the new “Railroading Now” exhibit, which features an exciting new interactive display, perfect for young railfans. Guests will also have the opportunity to complete a coloring activity in the Museum’s lecture hall.  The Colorado Region of the Classic Car Club of America will display a variety of classic automobiles on the grounds today.  Museum Members and children under 2 are free, $5 for children, $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (over 60) and $30 for families.

Don’t forget the City’s Greener Golden event this morning from 9-12.

The Golden Library is hosting a class on “Fabulous Flower Containers” today from 1:30-2:30.  Learn the principles of creating a beautiful container garden – ideal for those who lack a large yard, live in an apartment or just want to add excitement to an entryway or porch. Techniques and design concepts will be covered by a Colorado State University trained Master Gardener. There will be time at the end for gardening questions.
