Dinosaurs, Drugs, Elk, Earth Day, and More in Golden

Community Carnival in the Cretaceous is happening today from 11AM-3PM at the Dinosaur Ridge Main Visitors Center. Bring the entire family out to Dinosaur Ridge for a day of carnival fun. Kids of all ages can enjoy rock climbing walls, inflatable slides and bounce houses, and midway games with dinosaur-themed prizes. Admission to the carnival is FREE! You may purchase tickets for rides and games for $1/ticket.

The Golden Police are holding their Drug Take-Back Day from 10AM-2PM. This is a good chance to clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of old prescriptions. Drop them off at the police station, 911 10th St.

At 10:30 this morning, you can attend the Unveiling Celebration for our newest piece of public art. “Protecting the Future” depicts an elk and her two calves. It has been installed in the roundabout at Heritage Road and Kimball Avenue (map). This piece was the brainchild of Heritage Dells resident Preston Driggers, who organized the neighbors and led the fundraising efforts that made the piece possible. The artist, Christine Knapp, will be present for this morning’s event, and you’ll have the chance to view the piece up close. Learn more at www.awego.org.

The Library is hosting Golden Goes Green from 11:30-2:30. Learn how to up-cycle and where to recycle. Celebrate sustainability with the library as we discover easy ways to go green. From a composting demo and green cleaning solutions to various up-cycled crafts, there’s fun activities for everyone.

Earth Sweet Botanicals is hosting their annual Earth Day Celebration from 12-5PM today. “Bee” The Change Bees and plants…so important for our earth. Join us as we celebrate the bee for Earth Day this year. FREE honey tastings & organic popcorn with botanical sprinkles. Try a refreshing Floral Elixir Mocktail and a tasty cup of chocolate chia pudding (dirt cups). West Side Live! Presents Acoustic Eidolon tonight at 7PM at the Jefferson Unitarian Church. Acoustic Eidolon – Joe Scott and Hannah Alkire – bring their modern acoustic performance to the WSLP stage! Sunday Morning Preview:

A Rose By Any Other Name

The community is invited to join the Denver Rose Society for the annual rose pruning demonstration at the JCSO Rose Garden. This is a FREE workshop and demonstration and is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Participants will be educated in applying correct pruning techniques with hands-on instruction from Denver Rose Society Consulting Rosarians and members. Bring your own pruning tools and gloves to practice pruning on the Detention Center roses (with instruction) OR just come and watch and learn!
