Tonight’s consent agenda includes approval of the annexation petition for 501 McIntyre Street (map) for Bobcat of the Rockies.
They will vote on a rule change regarding how quasi-judicial matters should be handled during virtual meetings.
They will read a proclamation regarding Holocaust Remembrance Day.
They will discuss a request for financial assistance in the form of a grant or a forgivable loan for the purchase of Golden Hills Mobile Home Park to make it a resident owned community. This fits in with the City’s goal to support affordable housing.
Public Hearings
They will vote on whether to extend the building moratorium for 120 days or until the zoning code rewrite is complete.
They will also vote on whether to approve two exemptions to the moratorium–one for 1120 9th Street (map) and one for 304 Cheyenne Street (map). Both are single family home owners wanting to add space for their own families.
They will vote on whether to create an ordinance requiring that kids’ meals offer only “healthy beverages” such as water, unflavored milk, or sparking water.
They will vote on whether to enact an updated noise ordinance.
Status of the Zoning Code Rewrite
The Community and Economic Development Director will outline the plan and schedule for completing the zoning code rewrite. They hope to hold the final Council hearing and lift the moratorium on April 12th.
Executive Session
They will end with an executive session (no public, no cameras) to discuss the purchase, acquisition, transfer, or sale of properties at 1225 Catamount Drive (map), near South Golden Road and Johnson Road (map), and “South of I-70, near Rooney Road” (map).

Golden History Moment
The January 25, 1917 Colorado Transcript reported that the Quaintance family planned to quarry the rim rock that surrounds South Table Mountain.
The rim rock of North Table mountain, of South Table mountain and of Castle Rock is basalt of the highest commercial value and is just the material that is being clamored for by the contractors of the West.
The Quaintances owned the Castle Rock funicular and a good part of South Table Mountain. They planned to install a “monster crusher” on South Table Mountain and use the funicular railway to bring down the crushed rock. The article explained that basalt was far superior to crushed granite for use in concrete or for gravel road beds.
The Transcript of this era was a non-stop booster and promoter, and they never met an industry they didn’t like, but even they seemed faintly dismayed at the prospect of grinding up North and South Table mountains, “…which form a great part of the scenery of Golden.”
I’m glad that this plan never came to fruition. Think of all the logos it would have spoiled.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
