Tonight’s study session will include the following topics: Small Cell Technology in Rights-of-Way Update, Community Wildfire Protection, Retail Marijuana Implementation, Clear Creek Subcommittee Proposed 2022 Work Plan, and the Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Action Plan.
Council will be discussing how to implement recreational marijuana sales tonight. Staff has provided a list of issues that they may want to consider. If you have opinions on any of the following, contact your council representatives either individually or all at once at councilcomments@cityofgolden.net .
• Should there be a numerical limit on number of locations?
• Should the licensed locations be dispersed in the community or concentrated in designated areas?
• If not limited to specific areas , what spacing requirements should apply-Schools, Day Care, Parks, other marijuana locations?
• Should the use be specifically prohibited in downtown Golden?
• Should the City allow the one existing medical location to add recreational as part of the ordinance as opposed to competing for the license?
• Should the City impose potency limits or limits on the range of products offered in such locations?
• Co-location of medical and recreational at additional locations?
• Signage limits
• Hours of Operation limitations
• Initial application review… first come first served or merit, or hybrid lottery or what?
• Internal review committee to evaluate applications
• Ability to hold licenses for multiple locations (in the City or total?)
• Social Equity as criteria in License approval
• Transferability of License
• Should the City allow drive up/ walk up window sales?
• Should the City consider allowing delivery?

Golden History Moment
In 1905 and 1906, the Transcript ran a series of articles titled “Pretty Golden Homes.” Each one included a photo and some information about a house and the family that lived there. Unfortunately, most of the scanned images are of poor quality, but the articles are interesting. Some of the houses are still around.
116 Years Ago
The January 18, 1906 Colorado Transcript featured the new house at 14th and Washington, home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Rhoads. The article reported that Mr. Rhoads had designed the house and done all the carpentry work himself. It described the masonry as “purple Golden pressed brick.”
In 1949, Herb Schloffman opened a pet shop in the home, and in 1957 he built an addition on the Washington Avenue side, to give the business a more traditional storefront.
The pet shop operated there for about 50 years, followed by the goldsmith, Gene Bauer. The 1905 residence is still easily recognizable behind the storefront.
