The City has been conducting a pilot program with the police department, allowing employees to work 4 day weeks--32 hours per week instead of 40--without a reduction in pay or benefits. The City Manager has stated that if the pilot goes well, he plans to move the other City employees to the reduced work day plan. His theory is that employees will be so much more efficient that there will be no loss of productivity.
There will be a community meeting this Thursday to report on the six month status of the pilot program.
