GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

On June 17th, 1989, Golden celebrated the First Annual Columbine Day and the 50th Anniversary of the Golden DAR Pioneer Museum. The Golden History Museum was established by the Works Progress Administration in 1938 as one of the many Depression-relief projects in the Golden area. The museum closed when it lost federal funding and remained closed for the duration of World War II.

In 1953, the Lookout Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution offered to reopen the museum and assume responsibility for managing it. The group managed the museum until 2007, when the City of Golden took over operation of the museum.

A brass plaque honoring Revolutionary War patriots, on a gray granite base. Donated by the Lookout Mountain Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, in celebration of their 100th anniversary. A brown granite monument is nearby, commemorating the group's work in planting trees and establishing a park in that area. A group of blue columbines is planted nearby.

Another notable service project accomplished by the local DAR was building the DAR Triangle Park between the Visitors Center and Clear Creek. For many years, the group planted trees in that area every year for Arbor Day. They recently celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Lookout Mountain Chapter of the DAR by installing a new monument (along with some lovely columbines) in their park, near their Arbor Day monument.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
