Colorado Mining, a Threat to the Fairgrounds, Traffic Calming, and a Real-Life Legal Thriller

12:30-1:30PM Today’s ED Talk features Ed Raines (Collections Manager for the Mines Museum): Colorado Establishes a Mining Industry – Central City and Beyond. Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch to GRL, room 201.

6-7:30PM Jefferson County is considering closing the County Fairgrounds as a cost-saving measure. The possibility has ignited great concern among the groups based at the Fairgounds, including Westernaires, 4H, riding clubs, high school rodeo, the county extension services, etc. The County has scheduled a “brainstorming” session tonight to look for alternatives to closing the facility. 6PM The Mobility and Transportation Advisory Board meets this evening in City Council Chambers. Their main topic will be an ordinance regarding traffic calming (either city-funded projects or citizen-funded). They will then discuss their work plan for 2020. Learn more and see the traffic calming ordinance….

7PM The School of Mines has an interesting two-night event this week. This evening at 7, they’re offering a free screening of Dark Waters (which is a new release, still showing in theaters). The film dramatizes the true story of an attorney who pursued a lawsuit for environmental crimes against a big chemical company. Tomorrow night, that attorney (Rob Bilott) will be at the School of Mines, giving a keynote speech and participating in a panel discussion. Both events take place in Bunker Auditorium in the Green Center (map). You won’t need tickets for tonight’s film showing, but you must go online to get a ticket for tomorrow night’s keynote speech/panel discussion. The public is welcome, but tonight’s seats and tomorrow’s tickets are first-come, first served–don’t dawdle! Learn more….
