After Dark Winter Wonderland Walks + Golden’s Holiday Light Display
Golden’s impressive holiday lights transform the charming town into a winter wonderland with downtown, the Clear Creek Walking Path, Golden History Park, Parfet Park and the Visitors Center spectacularly illuminated with an estimated 45,000 bulbs. A single giant evergreen tree in front of the Golden Visitors Center is wrapped in approximately 5,000 lights all on its own. Start a new family tradition and bundle up, pick up hot cocoa at a Golden coffee shop, and enjoy an evening walk with holiday lights reflecting in the icy waters of Clear Creek and in the downtown shop windows.

Golden History Moment

2003 Graphic Map of Golden – Golden History Museum Collection – click to enlarge

This map was drawn in 2003 to promote local businesses. Businesses paid to be featured, so the artist took some liberties with our geography; in some cases, entire blocks are missing, and in others, imaginary buildings fill in spaces (see 13th & Arapahoe). It’s interesting to see the differences in 17 years–what has changed and what remains.

I know it’s hard to read at this scale, so here’s an excerpt showing just the businesses in and near downtown.

Gone: Golden Tea Time, Williamsburg Inn, Chelsea of London…
Moved: Century 21 Golden West, Rocky Mtn Quilt Museum…
Renamed: Thirteenth Street Bake Shop, Golden Pioneer Museum…

What other differences do you spot?
