Clear Creek is on the rise! The water levels generally peak in mid- to late-June, and we can expect extra high water this year because of the phenomenal snowpack. I’m seeing articles warning of potential flash floods around the state. That’s not likely to happen in Golden, but we can expect the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept to close the creek for recreational use for a few days later this month. A popular local pastime at this time of the year is watching the bronze trout below Parfet Park, to see whether they actually get submerged in the raging waters. If you’re more numbers-driven, you can track the flow on this USGS site.
The Railroad Museum has special events today, including tours of the roundhouse, the turntable, and railcars that aren’t normally open to the public. They also have a new exhibit, highlighting some of the unique items from the museum’s collection and a display of William Henry Jackson photos. The museum is open from 10AM-4PM, with train rides available from 10AM-2PM.
The Quilt Museum is hosting Sunday at the Museum this afternoon from 2-4PM. Today’s topic is History of an Obsessive Quilter. Ann Peterson has been quilting for most of her adult life and has always been passionate about sewing and textiles. In 2011 she started quilting full time after working at the Great American Quilt Factory. Her quilts have won numerous awards and have been featured in Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine and Machine Quilting Unlimited. She also teaches classes online for Blueprint.
