The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will discuss various infrastructure changes to West Colfax. Staff recently met with CDOT to to discuss whether one through lane in each direction will be adequate for Colfax west of Rooney Road. Currently, the westbound side has two through lanes. The “extra” lane would be converted in a cycling lane, a sidewalk, and landscaping. Staff will seek GURA’s opinion as to whether the city should apply for a DRCOG/federal funds grant to make Colfax a “complete street” (again, bike lanes and sidewalks). The group will also discuss ways to use TIF (tax increment financing) to fund affordable housing in Golden. Learn more about any of these topics by reviewing the meeting packet.
Tomorrow night, Golden Beer Talks will present Dr. Mike Bell of the National Park Service Air Resources Division. He’ll discuss Using Science to Influence Management of our National Parks.
The National Park Service manages 417 units across the United States to preserve natural and cultural resources, and the values of our great nation. From grizzly bears to grizzled peaks and charges to early American history, these units represent some of the most unique places on earth. But as climate change, air pollution and invasive species impact the health of parks, managers must adapt to a new normal in order to preserve the integrity of the ecosystem for future generations.
