Charity, History, and Activities

Getting into the pre-holiday spirit, I’m going to start listing some local ways to help the less fortunate in our community.

Mayor Sloan reports that the most in-demand item in the homeless population is warm socks. Accordingly, there are donation boxes at both City Hall and the Visitors Center. Please drop off some new, warm socks, if you’re so inclined.

Golden History Moment:
Here’s another photo given to me by the late Donna Plummer. The top picture shows the house that used to be at 12th and Jackson, before the 1945 Post Office was built there. The railroad tracks in the top photo were used by the interurban train that ran from Denver to Golden until 1950. The bottom picture was taken from Google Street View. Both photos show the scar from the old funicular railway that used to run up to Castle Rock.
