Celebrating, Planning, and Gardening

Foothills Art Center will open a new exhibit tomorrow:  Finding Home.  Housing has been a central political issue in the Denver Metro Area for over a decade. The explosive growth of Denver and the surrounding areas as a residential destination has caused turmoil in the housing market. FAC would like to spark conversation about this topic through the arts community. Invited artists will offer their unique perspective on the issue as Denver Metro residents. Partnership with local government will increase the depth of insight into the issue and educational opportunities for visitors.

If you’re a member of Foothills Art Center, join them tonight from 6-8PM for a members-only preview.  Please be aware, this is a FAC Member Only event. Please renew or join ahead of time. Please bring your membership card for faster check-in.

Prehistory of the Front Range
The Golden History Center is hosting a lecture tonight from 5:30-7 by Golden resident Meg Van Ness, Regional Historic Preservation Officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  Learn about Colorado’s ancient hunter-gatherers and ecosystems while gaining a generalized understanding of early life on the Front Range.  $0 members; $10 non-members.  Since the History Center is closed for remodeling, this talk will take place at the Golden Community Center (1470 10th Street – map).

Golden Body Worker is celebrating their 15th anniversary tonight from 4:30-6:30, and you are invited to help them celebrate with food, music, chair massages, door prizes, and a ribbon cutting at 5:30.    Peter Wolf will play Native American Flute. Mary Schroeer will play singing bowls. Graduates from the Colorado Healing arts are doing free chair massages. Cyndy’s Food-Lish-Us is doing the catering, including smoked pulled pork and cooked cabbage. Gold Mine cupcakes is for dessert.  Congratulations Wendy!  1300 Jackson Street, Suite B200 (map)

The School of Mines is having a public meeting about their Master Plan tonight from 5:30-7PM at the Starzer Welcome Center, 1812 Illinois Street (map). They encourage citizens to watch this 40-minute video before the meeting, to prepare you for the discussion at the meeting.

At this session you will be able to comment on alternatives to the physical plan. The alternatives in the video were derived from campus and public input compiled during the previous months. This session is geared towards receiving input from the City of Golden and the public at large.

Get in the mood for Earth Day! The Golden Community Center has a program tonight from 6-8PM on Xeriscaping in Colorado. It is becoming more and more widely known that Xeriscaping is a good idea, and there are some really spectacular, eye-catching xeric landscapes out there. But how does your average person achieve such beauty and perfection? And what about when life happens – pets, critters, storms, budgets, and lifestyle realities? How does it work then? Does it have to be ugly to be easy?

Join Kenton J. Seth, a genuinely lazy Native Landscape designer and plant nut, to find out the hands-on, real-life answers that make saving water just the beginning of the benefits you’ll reap from your Xeriscape. If this is not one of the most useful classes you take this year, then you might have taken a wrong turn finding the room.  1470 10th Street (map)
