Golden History Moment
Here’s a piece of short-term history. Last year, Coronavirus was raging and the vaccine had not yet been released. The Health Department was still posting health stats every day. The County had had 22,213 cases to date (we’re now up to 72,796). Golden had had 770 (now 2,800).
The City made the difficult decision to cancel the Candlelight Walk and the Holiday parades. You can watch the video version the 2020 lighting ceremony, starring Mayor Weinberg and her daughter, the City’s former Communications Director, Karlyn Tilley, and Chamber Executive Director Nola Krajewski.
As a substitute for the usual holiday social events, the City encouraged everyone to light a candle every night at 7PM through the month of December. They made a video about that, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK9lhjCHl_0.
Tonight, with 77.8% of the population at least partially vaccinated, we’re resuming the traditional lighting ceremony. If you prefer to avoid the crowd, you’ll still have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the lights. They’ll be on every night all month!
