6PM Virtual Community Meeting – Rezoning for Mining Operations

Golden History Moment
The January 26, 1950 Colorado Transcript described an attempted robbery at Meyer Hardware. Joe Meyer was working late one evening when he heard a knock at the back door. He assumed it was his wife, coming down from their apartment on the second floor of the building.
He opened the door and saw two masked gunmen, who demanded that he let them in. Meyer dodged behind the paint counter, then ran to the phone and called the sheriff. The Sheriff called the Golden police, and within minutes, officers from both agencies converged on the store. The would-be robbers–two boys, aged 16 and 14–squealed away in a pickup truck. Police officers and sheriff’s deputies all over the county were alerted, and within an hour, the boys were in custody.
It was Golden’s third robbery attempt within the past three weeks. Both Foss Drug and Kellogg Hardware had been robbed, but in both cases the criminals were quickly found and jailed.
