Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners

Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

Clear Creek Room:  The Heart of Golden
Surrounded by North and South Table Mountains, Clear Creek has drawn people to this area for millennia. 

We Are Still Here:  The Endurance of Native Jewels
In this exhibit, we define jewel as both a precious item as well as a woman of strength and importance. Explore how Indigenous women have persevered through hundreds of years of oppression and numerous attempts to destroy their culture. Featuring modern Native fashions that utilize ancient Indigenous jewels, learn about prominent Native women in contemporary American society. Not only are Native Americans still here; they have endured, and they are thriving.

Discovery Awaits:  Indigenous Connections, Epic Events, Legendary People, andthe Touch Gallery. A new Jolly Rancher exhibit is in the works and will open in2025.

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

The Golden Farmers Market (GFM) is produced and managed by the Golden Chamber of Commerce, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization in Golden, Colorado. The revenue generated from vendor sales commission helps to cover market operating expenses and directly benefits small businesses and the economic development of the Golden Community.

Capote Coat Making Class

Join expert Aaron “Hutch” Hutchings in making your very own capote coat (a long wrap-style wool coat) using a wool blanket. Attendees will need to bring their own wool blanket for a true finished product, but fleece will be provided to any attendees unable to bring a blanket. This class will take you step-by-step through each step of the coat. You will leave class with a coat and the skill to make more for the whole family.

Walk With a Geologist

Where: Dinosaur Ridge, 16831 West Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO

Walk with a Geologist at Dinosaur Ridge Trail is a 2.5-hour (1.5 mile) walking tour of the East and West sides of Dinosaur Ridge led by a professional or amateur geologist. In addition to the interpretation of the dinosaur track and fossil sites, the tour includes an in-depth discussion of the geology and changes of the Denver area through time. All walkers require a ticket to be transported via shuttle bus to the starting point. This tour is designed for participants ages 16 and older. 

Tour Specifics:

  • $20 per person (All walkers require a ticket to be transported via a shuttle bus to their starting point)
  • Tour is suggested for ages 16 and older.
  • 2.5 hours
  • Admission to the Exhibit Hall is included with each ticket
  • Masks are required on the shuttle bus (ages 3+).
  • Tour may be called off for active precipitation, temps below 32 degrees, or lack of registrations.
  • Appropriate attire: comfortable shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, removable clothing (windbreakers, fleeces, etc…)
  • Bring water
  • Minimum of 2 and maximum of 13 participants

Hummingbird - Pictorial Hand Appliqué with David Taylor

In this workshop David Taylor teachs his layered, hand-applique technique with simple applique shapes using freezer paper templates and liquid starch. The class will cover how David builds his pictorial wall quilts and how to get beautiful details by letting the fabric choices do all the hard work!
