The Friday Tour

Where: Colorado Railroad Museum, 17155 W. 44th Avenue, Golden, CO

10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Each Friday, join us for an hour of exploring a different aspect of Colorado’s railroad history. Each tour covers a specific theme and on these dates our focus will be: Locomotives!

Tours are subject to change and are based on guide availability. Each week’s theme is explored using a variety of museum resources to help bring the subject to life with the understanding that guests are welcome to continue their visit on their own after the tour.

Friday Tour Tickets - $3 each plus General Admission ($10 adults, $5 kids 2-15, $8 seniors 60+).

Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners

Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

Clear Creek Room:  The Heart of Golden
Surrounded by North and South Table Mountains, Clear Creek has drawn people to this area for millennia. 

We Are Still Here:  The Endurance of Native Jewels
In this exhibit, we define jewel as both a precious item as well as a woman of strength and importance. Explore how Indigenous women have persevered through hundreds of years of oppression and numerous attempts to destroy their culture. Featuring modern Native fashions that utilize ancient Indigenous jewels, learn about prominent Native women in contemporary American society. Not only are Native Americans still here; they have endured, and they are thriving.

Discovery Awaits:  Highlights from the Collection, Signs O' The Times, Confection Perfection: Jolly Rancher Company, Epic Events, Legendary People, the History Lab, and the Touch Gallery

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

CIRCLES, LINES and CURVES are the basics of Piecing in Art Quilts. Piecing lines is easy, but curves and inset circles are a bit of a challenge! Create your own Improv landscape as you learn these piecing skills. Create a Fat quarter size landscape wall hanging using these new skills and learning to create as your imagination moves you. Pick your own daytime or moonscape pallet - or ....create a piece of your own style while learning these techniques.

This specific swap will be focused on all the tie-dye, glittery, sparkly, donuts, patchwork, sequins, shiny, fun show clothes we love to wear whether it’s to Phish, Cheese, The Dead, Billy, or whichever tour you are on. Trade in gear that you want someone to share in the happiness it has brought you. Find some sweet threads for yourself to refresh your show wardrobe. All sizes and genders. Teen After Hours: Draw Like Disney

When: 6-8PM

There’s always something fun when the library shuts down! This month, teens will learn to draw their own versions of popular Disney characters. Bring your friends and make new ones as you follow step-by-step instructions from Disney animators and enjoy tasty treats.

These after hours events are for the 12-18 crowd. All skill levels are welcome.

ONLY teens in 6th through 12th grade will be allowed into this program. Please be respectful of this age limit for safety and to encourage peer learning with other teens.

While teaching pint-sized prodigies, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
