Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners

Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Caryl is an influential, award winning quilt maker best known for her organic, curved seam designs, her scintillating use of color, and her multilevel illusions of light and motion. Her attention to detail has earned her a reputation for fine craftsmanship as well as stunning designs.

Community Center CLOSED for Maintenance

The Golden Community Center (GCC) will be closed for its Annual Maintenance Week, Aug. 17 – 25. The GCC will reopen at its regular time on Monday, August 26.

DeLong Park Weedbusters

When: 8-10AM
Where: DeLong Park, 395 23rd Street, Golden, CO

Golden Parks and Recreation is using DeLong Park as a pilot project for the City’s first organic park location. This means that they will be using only natural, organic products for all plants and grasses. No synthetic chemicals will be used in our maintenance practices.

A group of weed-busting volunteers meets weekly at DeLong Park on Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon to weed out invasive species. Interested community members can join the group.

The DeLong Park Weed Busters are always happy to bring in new members, and training on weed identification is provided!

This monthly meeting will be on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., hosted by the Golden Hotel. Each month you will hear an update from City Council, DDA, City of Golden Police, and the Chamber, along with a business spotlight. We hope to see you there! 

This meeting is open to all businesses within the Golden area but with a focus on small businesses and restaurants within the City limits of Golden. This meeting is provided as a service by the Golden Chamber of Commerce. Chamber membership is highly encouraged but is not required to attend. Guests are welcome.

Rescheduled: Compressed Workweek Update - One Year

Golden is continuing to roll out a Compressed Workweek Pilot to additional city departments as was planned, if the data continued to show positive trends for productivity and services levels.

No decisions regarding the long-term application of a compressed workweek by the City are expected until 2025 at the earliest. The next community meeting will be held on August 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the City of Golden Council Chambers at which time updates and data from Golden Police Department and other participating departments will be shared.
