Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners

Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

Caryl is an influential, award winning quilt maker best known for her organic, curved seam designs, her scintillating use of color, and her multilevel illusions of light and motion. Her attention to detail has earned her a reputation for fine craftsmanship as well as stunning designs.

Full Walking Tour @ Dinosaur Ridge

When: 9:30-11:30AM
Where: Dinosaur Ridge, 16831 West Alameda Parkway, Morrison, CO

The Full Walking Tour is a guided tour of the East and West sides of Dinosaur Ridge. A volunteer guide will interpret the dinosaur tracks and bone fossils, local history, and geology during the one-way, 1.5-mile tour on a paved trail will take 1.5-2 hours. All walkers require a ticket to be transported via a shuttle bus to their starting point. This tour is designed for participants ages 10 and older. 
Tour Specifics:

  • $18 per person (All walkers require a ticket to be transported via a shuttle bus to their starting point)
  • 1.5-2 hours
  • Admission to the Exhibit Hall is included with each ticket
  • Masks are required on the shuttle bus (ages 3+).
  • Tour may be called off for active precipitation, temps below 32 degrees, or lack of registrations.
  • Appropriate attire: comfortable shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, removable clothing (windbreakers, fleeces, etc…)
  • Bring water
  • Minimum of 2 and maximum of 13 participants

Brunch at the Rose

34th Annual Golden Fine Arts Festival

Where: 11th Street between Maple and Arapahoe, Golden, CO

A Golden icon for three decades, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a prestigious juried art show located in the heart of historic downtown Golden, Colorado.

With its prime location just 20 minutes west of Metro Denver and free admission to the public, this premier event traditionally draws over 30,000 visitors (pre-COVID) over 2 days to enjoy art, live entertainment, beer and wine gardens and food vendors.

The event, rich in community tradition and a well-established reputation, is limited to 100 artist booth spaces.  Artists are selected through a competitive jury process selected by art professionals. Traditionally, over half of participating Artists travel to Golden from outside of the state of Colorado.  Colorado is also home to many talented Artists who participate at the event each year. Cash prizes are awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in nine categories, as well as Best of Show and Best of Colorado honors.

Produced by the Golden Chamber of Commerce, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a favorite of those who value an attentive and welcoming ‘home hospitality’ of Golden, Colorado for artists and patrons alike.

Gold Rush Days

Celebrate Colorado’s Gold Rush heritage, and ride behind one of the last coal-fired steam locomotives operating in Colorado. Activities will include Gold Panning demonstrations, turntable demonstrations, and more happening around the Museum’s 15-acre railyard. Plenty of photo opportunities will of course also be on hand—including the Museum’s very own mascot, Spike the Railroad Dog! Food and tasty treats will also be available for purchase.

Golden Library Presents: D&D Adventurers' Guild

Do you love epic fantasy adventure? Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) where the only limits are your imagination and the luck of the dice. Roll for initiative in a variety of adventuring possibilities using library provided materials or your own gear. 

You can Dungeon Master (DM) your own table, join a table as a player or show up to work on the creation of a new character or even build a campaign! Bring some friends to play with or make some new ones at the Adventurers' Guild. All skill levels welcome.

Bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning smash hit musical from Broadway to Golden! Based on the hilarious hit movie, this musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. While teaching pint-sized prodigies, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. Watch as this sub turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band, sensationally performed live by the production’s young actors every night!
