The Emperor loves his clothes! In fact, he cares more about his clothes than his people, and that’s not right! Along come a pair of swindlers ready to take advantage of the gullible Emperor and his two town officials, and the story begins.

Come help the Emperor learn appearances are not everything and honesty is the best policy.

Center for Railroad Photography & Art Winners

Every year, the Center for Railroad Photography & Art holds a contest that attracts some of today’s finest and most creative photographers. Those who placed in this year’s program will have their photographs displayed at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden into 2023. The Museum’s goal is to showcase not only Colorado’s rich railroad history, but also the many creative people—around the world—who keep the spirit of railroading alive and well in the 21st century.

The Salon:  Golden High School 150th Anniversary Exhibit 

Golden History Park (11th & Arapahoe):  The outdoor setting re-creates the look and feel of a late 1800's mountain ranch complete with gardens, a working blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and chicken coop (chickens included).

The main floor exhibits feature specimens from many Colorado mining districts, other global localities and an introductory video on area geology. The Special Exhibit Room hosts prominent precious metal and invited displays. The main gallery also showcases historic mining murals by Irwin Hoffman.

The basement contains numerous exhibits regarding radioactivity, fossils, basic geology, gemstones, meteorites, ultraviolet minerals and underground mining illumination. The outdoor geologic trail features seven outcrops with various geologic and paleontological points of interest, including fossilized dinosaur tracks, logs and leaves.

The Evolutions CFE show never disappoints with the variety of entries. The jurors have made their choices of the quilts that will be in the exhibit, and we think you will be surprised and delighted with the quilts.

Thorns & Spikes | The 4 Common Corners

(through July 20, 2024)
It is amazing to see what comes from a creative group of people challenging each other to create original quilts for a theme. They take 4 months to develop and create their work for each theme. This exhibit is the result of the THEME challenge "Thorns and Spikes" for a group who all live in the Common 4 Corner states, and the only rule is that their work represents these states.

Bird Watching Walk in Kinney Run

Where: Kinney Run Trail, Illinois Street, Golden, CO

Stewards of Golden Open Space is hosting three bird watching tours this year, which highlight our resident and  migrating birds. The scheduled dates are May 11th and May 18th. Tour participants will meet their guides at about 8:00 a.m. at the base of the Kinney Run trail on Illinois Street.  To sign up send an email to info@stewardsofgolden.org and tell us which day you prefer (give a backup if possible), how many in your party and a contact phone number.

Wilderness First Aid

Where: American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th Street, Golden, CO

This is a two-day class:  May 18-19

Reduce your risk outdoors with a Wilderness First Aid course! Learn how to anticipate risks and hazards; identify medical, traumatic, and environmental problems; recognize life-threatening issues; initiate basic care; and deliver a cohesive report. The curriculum encourages students to think creatively, adapt to ever changing situations, and learn valuable leadership, decision making, and communication skills.

Bike Walk Golden would like to share their new Courtesy Campaign and get your feedback on using a shared path. 

Join them on the Clear Creek Path (just west of the RV park and before the HWY 6 underpass).

Colorado Crossings

Metro Denver’s Largest Rail Enthusiast Event Returns!

This weekend (intended for narrow gauge and history enthusiasts) celebrates railroading in Colorado. There will be steam train rides, special activities including model and garden railroads in operation, and more!

Each day will kick off with a parade of steam locomotives and Galloping Goose motorcars (9:30am). Train Rides each day will feature a passenger train including historic coaches. Late each afternoon (approx. 3:30pm), a special photographers’ train will operate. Regular admission and train ride pricing applies. Capacity is very limited for this event, so advance purchase of admission and train ride tickets is recommended.

Creating a Cozy Campsite

Join expert Aaron “Hutch” Hutchings in building a cozy home away from home while camping. This class will prepare you to stay warm and comfortable while sleeping outdoors or chatting around the campfire. Both historic and modern camp building skills will be taught. While everyone else shivers, you’ll be sleeping your cares away in your perfectly designed campsite.

Blacksmithing

Have you always wanted to learn about blacksmithing but you’ve had trouble finding a good option? Join our volunteer every third Saturday at Golden History Park for a fun morning of observation and learning about blacksmithing. Our recreated blacksmith shop, complete with historic tools and coal-fired forge, will transport you to the 1800s. Bring your technical questions and your camera and we’ll take care of the rest.

Walk With a Geologist at Triceratops Trail

  • Tour is suggested for ages 16 and older
  • 2 hours
  • Admission to the Exhibit Hall at Dinosaur Ridge Main Visitor Center is included with each ticket
  • Tour may be called off for active precipitation, temps below 32 degrees, or lack of registrations
  • Appropriate attire: comfortable shoes, sun hats, sunglasses, removable clothing (windbreakers, fleeces, etc.)
  • Bring water
  • Minimum of 2 and maximum of 19 participants

Earth Day Celebration

The City of Golden and Weedbuster volunteers invite you to DeLong Park to Celebrate Earth Day, learn about the pesticide free park and the native plants that live there.

Climb aboard one of our locomotives on static display and you can re-live the magic of the rails all over again! Then, catch a ride on-board a passenger car pulled by a powerful locomotive!
