Boards and Rails

The Sustainability Board meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They’re gearing up for a community sustainability night, to be held at the Mountaineering Center on November 30th.  With this board’s encouragement, the city has installed water bottle filling stations in the restrooms in Lions and Parfet Parks, as well as the one on 12th St.  Representatives from the School of Mines’ Sustainability Committee plan to visit tonight’s meeting.

City Council meets tomorrow night at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They will hear about Foothills Art Center.  They will be asked to approve the sale of two lots of surplus city property up near the city shops.  The 5.85 acres of land are currently undeveloped and the the intended use is office and light industrial.  The City will net $1.5 million for this sale.

A brief history lesson:  The City bought 29 acres in 2005 so we could move the City shops from downtown to the north end of town.  The land that wasn’t needed for City use was subdivided into 6 lots and offered for sale.  Two lots sold in 2007.  Two more are likely to sell now, which is enough to retire the debt on the property.  The proceeds on the two remaining lots, when they sell, will be profit for the city.

Both meetings will be broadcast live through the city website.  The meeting packets, with more details, are also available online.
