Some years, Buffalo Bill Days is unbearably hot. Today looks pretty nice! Low 80s, some clouds. I hope you can get out and enjoy the events.
The Fire Department’s Pancake Breakfast is open from 6AM – 10AM. Tip: the line gets long, close to parade time, so get there early if you can. The parade starts at 10AM and will run along Washington Avenue from 9th Street to 13th Street. The Wild West Show in Lions Park is always fun. The cast at Monarch Productions will be joined by the Fort Carson Color Guard, wearing 1870s uniforms.
The Lil Spike Train will offer free rides continuously from noon – 6PM. Board the ride in front of the Visitors Center (10th & Washington). It runs along the trail on the north side of the Creek, crosses at the Billy Drew pedestrian bridge, and returns on the south side of the Creek.
Parfet Park will be full of food and craft vendors. They’ll have rides for the kids and live music all day. Stop by the Golden Landmarks Association booth, enjoy their historic Golden photos, and see what they have to say about the Astor House.
History nerd that I am, I’m looking forward to Buffalo Bill’s appearance on the Parfet Park stage at 1:15 and hearing from President Teddy Roosevelt at 6:30PM.
Speaking of history…I mentioned earlier this week that Parfet Park was the site of our city dump before the Golden Kiwanis took over. Watch this space tomorrow, when I recount the rest of its history!
