The Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee meets this morning at 7:30 in City Council Chambers. I wasn’t able to open their meeting packet, but typically at this time of the year, they’re reviewing next year’s proposed budget.
The Jeffco Sheriff’s Office (200 Jefferson County Parkway – map) will host a Food Truck Lunch Event today from 11AM-2PM. All proceeds will benefit the MC-1 Foundation, which provides financial support for law enforcers injured in the line of duty and their families.

From 6-7:30 this evening, Jeffco Open Space will present Land Stewardship: Native Plants in Your Garden. Join us to learn how to create a home landscape with Colorado’s colorful native plants and how landscaping with natives is beneficial to our environment. The instructor, Irene Shonle, is the Extension Director for Gilpin County and is a past Vice President of the Colorado Native Plant Society. She speaks about native plants statewide, maintains a native plant demonstration garden at the Gilpin Extension Office and uses them extensively in her own garden. The Planning Commission will have a study session (no public comment) at 6:30 this evening in City Council Chambers. Community Surveys show strong interest in acquiring more open space in and around the City. The Planning Commission will review a list of undeveloped land in our environs, and will prioritize which should be acquired if an opportunity arises to do so. The “opportunity” would need to include both the owners’ interest in selling their land and available funding to buy it. The Commission will also review a list of proposed changes to the “Sustainability Menu.” The menu includes energy efficiency measures required in new construction and significant remodels. Tonight’s third agenda item is a discussion of potential zoning changes for the North Neighborhoods area. As is the case in several parts of town, recent scrape-offs/new construction have raised concern amongst residents about how future development will affect their neighborhood. The residents have made a number of suggestions for changes to zoning that may make new development less overwhelming and invasive for current residents. Golden Life Coaching and Education will offer a free “Life Balance” workshop tonight from 6:30-7:30 at the Library. This interactive workshop will help attendees gain awareness about where their lives are out of balance and come up with some action steps toward achieving more balance and satisfaction.
