6:30 City Council will have a study session tonight in City Council Chambers. Staff will propose a graywater project, which would allow single family homes to divert the “used” water from their washing machines to their landscaping.
The City Manager and Finance Director will lead a discussion about the 2020 Operating Budget.
The Deputy City Manager will present a proposed Community Engagement Planning Guide, which will guide staff and elected officials through the process of communicating with the public. The document focuses mainly on the process of gathering public input on specific “projects” (such as soliciting input on the proposed municipal center).
It also contains a section called Indicators of Trouble, about responding when unanticipated conversations arise in the community. The Guide suggests that city staff & elected officials monitor comments on NextDoor and emails from constituents and be aware of rumors that may need to be addressed. The “Trouble” section also warns about Media – If something hits the newspapers, TV channels, or even hyper-local e-newsletters and blogs, you have a guaranteed audience of people who have now heard misinformation. Act on this right away. The word “media” no longer refers just to newspaper or TV reporters. Anyone who has built an audience can be considered in the media realm. This includes Golden residents or business owners who send out e-newsletters or blogs on a regular basis.
