There’s a used bicycle round-up today (Saturday May 7th) at the Unitarian Church, 14350 W. 32nd Ave. (map). If you are no longer using a bicycle, recycle it! Bicycles will be donated to the Golden Optimist Club. The Optimists fix up the bikes and give them to students, families, and anyone who needs one. A financial donation with each bicycle donated is voluntary but appreciated.
Don’t forget the guided hikes, leaving from the Visitors Center today at 10, 12, and 2. If group hikes aren’t your thing, stop by anyway to pick up free maps, water bottles, and sunscreen. The Golden Visitors Center is at the southwest corner of 10th and Washington.

The Railroad Museum is celebrating Family Day today. Bring the whole family for this special day of engaging and educational activities. Climb aboard the dining car and see where travelers enjoyed their meals on the go. Listen to fascinating tales of dining on trains, enjoy musical performances and design your own dinner menu or plate to take home. And don’t forget to visit our newest exhibit, Eating on the Rails: A Look at Dining on Railroads. Musical performances will begin at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. Admission: Museum Members and Children under 2 are free, Children $5, Adults $10, and Seniors $8. Ride Tickets: Adults (16+) $4, Children (2-15) $2. Museum members receive $1 discount per ticket. Tickets are available for purchase at the door, no reservations required.
The Railroad Museum will also be hosting Robert McLaughlin, the author of Magic Mountain, the new book about Heritage Square’s predecessor. I heard him Thursday night at the Golden History Center. He drew a good crowd and gave a great talk. Bob will be at the Railroad Museum from 1-3 today.
Tonight is the first Golden Super Cruise of the season! There will be lots of beautiful classic cars on South Golden Road from 5-8:30.
Tonight at 7, West Side Live! presents a staged reading of the play Sheltered written by local playwright Catherine Wiley. The play takes place in temporary homeless shelter for women in Denver and unfolds over a single day, with choral interludes by different homeless women illustrating the complexities of their lives. One of the main characters, Martha, volunteers as a way of searching for her mother, who has moved in and out of addiction and homelessness for much of Martha’s life. With the help of Cassie and Tiffany, Martha reconnects with her mother, Helen, in an effort to bring her home. They discuss and debate the origins of their predicament, the realities of living on the receiving end of charity, and their hopes for the future. 14350 West 32nd Avenue (map)
