Golden History Moment
Yesterday’s “Golden History Moment” included the maps above, which showed land at the south end of Golden. In 1982, the historic ranches were on the brink of becoming suburbia. In 2022, most of that land is occupied by homes and businesses.
There are a few large parcels of west of highway 6 that remain undeveloped. These include the small field at the foot of Mount Zion where the hang gliders land and the much larger swath between the Beverly Heights neighborhood and Eagle Ridge Drive. The 1982 map showed the northern piece belonging to the Parfets and the southern piece belonging to the Sheltons.
I wondered who owned that property now, and thought my readers might also be curious. I turned to Esther Kettering, the Managing Director at Cushman & Wakefield, who has been involved in Golden commercial real estate for decades. She did a property search and sent a couple of very helpful maps.
Ms. Kettering’s research shows that both the Parfet land on the north and the Shelton land on the south now below to the Colorado School of Mines. (Thanks, Esther!)
