Art Opening, 100 Years of the Golden Chamber, City Council, and Comedy Tonight

8:30AM The Public Art Commission is having an off-site retreat today at Souders Studios – 1301 Ulysses St, Golden (map). They will discuss their 2020 Strategic Plan, Budget, Next Big Project(s), 2020 Small Project Wish List, Artsweek Golden 2020, Structure and Staffing Opportunities/Changes, and Potential Golden History Museum Partnership. They will also discuss their plan to relocate the “run and fly” piece from the north end of town to the triangle of public land in the Central Neighborhoods, near the high school roundabout.

6-8PM Foothills Art Center is hosting a members-only preview tonight for their 2020 Members’ Show & Power of Process: A Jeffco Student Exhibition. It will be open to the public starting tomorrow morning at 10. Speaking of Foothills, they are offering a class this Saturday: Cups & Saucers – Ink & Joy – New Year – Fresh Start. Celebrate your New Beginnings, Fresh Start with sumi e abstract painting.

3-5PM The Golden Chamber is celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2020. To kick off the year, they’re having an open house this afternoon, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30PM.

6:30PM City Council meets tonight in City Council Chambers. They will hold a public hearing about the proposed Transportation Master Plan, then vote to approve it. They will be asked to approve two right-of-way vacations in town–one in the area of the County buildings, and one in the middle of a car dealership on Colfax. They will consider an intergovernmental agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation which will result in a major “complete streets” project on Colfax (generally that means adding bike lanes and sidewalks).

In preparation for the Heart of Golden2020 (building a new municipal center in place of the Coors office building in Goosetown) project, the City has been working with Slate Communications to support communications efforts. They are also working with Magellan strategies to hold focus groups and conduct phone polling in preparation for going to the ballot with a bond issue this fall. Tonight they will ask Council to approve a contract, not to exceed $158,907, with a third consulting company. This one will provide conceptual planning, design and cost options, engagement support and presentation materials.

They will conclude with an Executive Session (no camera, no public) “to confer with an attorney for the City for the purposes of receiving legal advice on specific legal questions, and C.R.S. § 24-6-402(4)(e), and Golden Municipal Code 1.03.050 a. (5), for determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations; developing strategy for negotiations; and instructing negotiators regarding an agreement with the Fairmount Fire Protection District.” For more information about any of tonight’s City Council topics, see the agenda….
