Art, music, geology, and closing public streets

There’s a student & teacher art sale today at Golden High School, from 2:25-6:25.  Here’s a chance to purchase student- and teacher-made artwork, including photography, ceramics, jewelry, drawing, and painting.  The event will be located in the cafeteria, prior to the Holiday Concert, which starts at 7:00 p.m., held by the Music Department. Food will be provided by the catering class! Ten percent of the proceeds will go to a homeless shelter.

Arapahoe Street closure

City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They will hold a public hearing to review an application requesting a vacation of a portion of Arapahoe Street between 13th and 14th Streets. The proposed project would create a one block pedestrian thoroughfare in front of Calvary Church and the Armory building that would be open to the general public, though it would be permanently closed to motorized vehicle traffic.

The Buffalo Rose is hosting the Colorado Blues Society Members’ Choice Award Show tonight at 7.  Performers will include The Billy Hoke Xtrav XVI and an eclectic assortment of some of the finest musicians Colorado has to offer.  Blues Society members pay $10 at the door; non-members are $15

The Friends of the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum’s First Thursday Lecture is tonight at 7:00pm in room 241 in Berthoud Hall.  The topic is “An Overview of the Geology of the Central African Copperbelt” by Dr. Murray Hitzman, Charles F. Fogarty Professor of Economic Geology, Department of Geology and Geological Engineering, Colorado School of Mines.”
