An Exotic Visitor, Morning Coffee, the First Candidate Forum, Golden Beer Talks, and a Portable Building

Golden Eye Candy – Terri Smith – Moose on Ford Street – enlarge

How Do I Choose Golden Eye Candy?
I love seeing the photos that people send me. I don’t usually post wildlife photos, because the best ones are usually close-ups, and my one rule is that the location has to be recognizably Golden; that’s why you see so many photos of Castle Rock. This stretch of Ford Street isn’t particularly eye candy-ish, but it was exciting to see a full-grown moose strolling through town. (Thanks, Terri!)

GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

Quaintance Block from Google Maps – enlarge

I’m sure you’ve noticed the lovely brick building at 805 13th Street. You may be surprised to learn that this isn’t its original location.

Armistice Day Celebration showing the Quaintance building at its original location on the corner – Golden History Museum collection

It was constructed in 1911 at the corner of 13th and Washington. The photo above, taken on November 18th, 1918, shows the building at its original spot at the corner.

In 1923, the building was moved west, to make way for a gas station at the corner of 13th and Washington.
