Affordable housing & electric vehicles

The library is holding a game lounge (board games) for grades 5-8 from 2-3 this afternoon.  From 4-5PM, they’re having a DIY Kids session for ages 6-11.  You must register for the DIY session.  Do it from the library’s events page.


The Planning Commission meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  This is a study session, so they will not be making decisions, nor will they accept public comment.  Tonight’s topic is affordable housing (and how to get more of it in Golden).  The City has hired a new employee for a term of 2 years to study this issue.  Learn more….


The Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee meets tomorrow (April 21st) at 7:30AM in City Council Chambers.  This group will discuss City Council’s 2016 priorities (which include affordable housing) and their impact on the budget.  The Parks & Rec Director will provide an update on the Astor House restoration.  The Police Chief will update the group on the plan to move to a centralized dispatch center and coordinated records system (to be shared with other nearby towns).  Learn more….


The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will have a bunch of Electric Vehicles on hand tomorrow from 11-1, available for test drives!  Vehicles from BMW, Nissan, Ford, and Chevy are expected.  You can reserve a time for a test drive online, or make arrangements with the automaker at the event.  Learn more….

NREL also has a free lecture tomorrow at noon–Peaks and Plains: The Story of Energy Innovation in Rural Colorado.  Cary Weiner, Energy Specialist for Colorado State University (CSU) Extension and Director of CSU’s Rural Energy Center, will discuss policies and programs designed to stimulate energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in rural Colorado. He will focus on his work conducting community energy assessments for rural Colorado towns and analyzing the feasibility of on-farm solar and wind systems.
