Affordable Housing Discussion Tonight

Today’s Wee Create at the Library features Painting with Nature. Introduce your little one to artistic processes and unleash their creativity. When children create without a set end product in mind, they are free to imagine, discover, and get messy! 11:15-noon. Suitable for: Preschoolers and Toddlers.

The League of Women Voters will host a meeting from 1:30-3 today at the the Courthouse, 100 Jefferson County Parkway. The topic is “Do you recognize signs of elder abuse?” Deputy District Attorneys with the Elder Abuse Unit, Jessica Radke and Bryan Cook will speak. City Council meets tonight at 6:30. This is a study session, so there will be no public comment. They will review a list of citizen suggestions to be added to the city budget, which include Natural Play Space, Outdoor Space Planning, Upkeep and Daily Cleaning of the Community Center, increased outdoor seating along the creek, Open Space purchases, increased downtown pickups for recycling, compost, and trash; more sidewalks, a Golden Arts Center, improvements to Lions Park, and revitalizing Triceratops Trail. They will also discuss the future of the Astor House. They have received an estimate on the cost of finishing the space so the building can be used again. They will also discuss what to do with it. Options include using it for city storage, offices, or meetings, or soliciting proposals from outside orgnizations. Finally, they will discuss LGBTQ inclusiveness in Golden.

Foothills Art Center is hosting a discussion panel tonight from 7-9PM about Affordable Housing. Come, watch and participate in a discourse about the challenges and solutions for the Denver Area’s housing crisis. Local experts and influential figures will on hand to discuss the issues. Questions welcomed at the end of the discussion. This ties in with the Art Center’s current exhibit, Finding Home.
