Buffalo Bill and Louisa Cody will be visiting the Buffalo Bill Museum today. This is their final visit for this summer.
In this special series of public programs, historic interpreters Javan and Susan Ridge will present 20-minute educational presentations throughout the summer. These outdoor performances will be free-of-charge, not requiring museum admission.
1:30 pm & 2:30 pm: Taking the Wild West to London
Buffalo Bill recounts the long, often rough, voyage across the ocean with seasickness so profound the Indians were singing their death song! He will tell of how the English cultural differences almost led to bankruptcy and describe how Queen Victoria received the Americans during a very special performance.
2 pm & 3 pm: A Wife’s Reflection: Cody’s Tragic Final Years
Bill’s wife, Louisa, will take you through the last years of Buffalo Bill’s life. She will tell of the many business ventures that became a financial burden just as audiences and the popularity of the Wild West were were waning. Mounting debt and poor choices kept him on the show trail long after his physical ability was up to the task. Louisa tells of the personal impact and the tragic end to a great man who will always be a symbol of the Old West.
