Virtual Golden

Lubahn Trail – from Google Maps

7:30AM Downtown Merchants Association Meeting – register HERE to receive the link.
9-9:40AM Virtual Core Conditioning
10:15-11:15AM Baby & Toddler Time with the Library
7PM Parks Recreation and Museums Advisory Board

The PRAM Board will discuss the Lubahn Trail (18th and Belvedere). This has been an on ongoing issue for many years. It was built by a Mines prof in the 1960s and leads to Castle Rock. The trail has been “discovered” in a big way and gets very heavy use. The trail was not built to modern standards nor designed for heavy traffic, does not protect against erosion, and it ends on private property (Castle Rock). The City has tried fencing off the approach to the private property, but people pull down the fence and keep following the trail. The City and Jefferson County Open Space have discussed the problem and will present the board with several possibilities tonight. The Golden History Museum Director will also give a status report, and the board will discuss the capital improvement plan for 2020 and 2021. See the meeting packet for more information….

Golden History Moment

Aerial photo of Golden from 1990 – courtesy of Bill Robie – Click to enlarge (a lot!)

Bill Robie gave me this great aerial photo of Golden, taken in 1990. That was right before Golden’s economy (and property values) really took off. Mitchell Elementary was still downtown, the Visitors Center hadn’t yet been built, the Golden Hotel wasn’t there yet, and the Canyon Point neighborhood hadn’t been built. What other changes do you spot?
