8th Street, Liquor Licenses, Housing, and DeLong Park

The Changing Face of 8th St. – Images from Google Maps Click to enlarge

I often use Google Street View to check out changes in Golden over the past decade, and last night I was viewing the changes on 8th Street. What a difference! In the past few years, more than 100 apartments and townhomes have been built along this half mile stretch of road. The Briarwood property is currently being redeveloped to add another 72 apartments and a 48 room hotel. The increase in traffic levels has alarmed residents on 8th and the adjacent streets.

Tonight at 6PM, the City is hosting a meeting at the Golden Community Center (map) to discuss plans for redesigning 8th Street to handle the current and future volume of traffic. If this is a topic of concern to you, plan to be there!

2:30PM The Local Licensing Authority meets in city Council Chambers this afternoon. Our much anticipated ramen restaurant (Nosu Ramen) is applying for a liquor license. Lil Ricci’s is renewing theirs. Dirty Dogs Roadhouse is applying to temporarily modify their premises for a “large Christmas shopping event” on December 14th. Woody’s is also applying to temporarily modify their premises for a special event on December 7th (a fundraiser for Golden High School). See the agenda for more information….

5:30PM The Golden United Housing Task Force will meet in the Arthur Lakes Library on the School of Mines campus (map). This group “is advancing actions to improve access to affordable housing for all income levels while preserving Golden’s unique small town character.”

The full Housing Task Force will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The first 30-45 minutes of the meeting will be devoted to discussion with CSM student housing officials of how citizens and the school can work together to match students in need of housing with residents keen to rent a room to a student, possibly including those who would like a student to help with basic chores, and how to work together to address other housing challenges. They will briefly discuss status and next steps with the rental assistance funding campaign, ADU activities, and other activities. After that, a subgroup will discuss ways to preserve existing manufactured housing.

7PM The Parks Recreation and Museum Advisory Board meets this evening in City Council Chambers. They will discuss the design process for DeLong Park on 23rd St. See the agenda….
