The Historic Preservation Board will consider the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish a house in the 8th and 9th Street Historic District. This is the second time this request has come before the board. The same owner requested demolition last spring, which the board reluctantly approved. The owner then requested that the property, which is a non-contributing part of the district, be removed from the Historic District. The Board denied the request, so the owner appealed the matter to City Council. Council also denied it.
In the meantime, the property has been tested for methamphetamine exposure and tested positive. This was a surprise to the owner, who has rented it for many years, but it has now prompted him to renew his request to demolish the property. Learn more on pp. 4-64 of the meeting packet.
