Additional to historic home in Golden Colorado

The Historic Preservation Board meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers, and they’re covering some interesting topics. They’re being asked for Certificates of Appropriateness for two projects in the East Street Historic District. 1) The homeowners at 503 18th Street want to add a 2nd story addition to their garage to serve as a 630 square feet accessory dwelling unit. 2) The owner of 1703 Ford Street and 515 17th Street wants to replace a stand-along 3 car garage with a new 2 car garage with 2nd story apartment. The new structure would attach to both 1703 Ford Street and 515 17th Street. It would add a third dwelling to the area and increase the overall living space by 2,323 square feet.

This type of project–where an older home is remodeled to include an additional dwelling unit–is happening all over Golden, particularly in the historic districts.  These projects may provide a way to introduce more affordable housing to the City without constructing new, dense, multi-unit purpose-built affordable housing developments.  Learn more by reviewing the meeting packet….
