  • In November, 2017, City Council changed the Comprehensive Plan to say that “The city will use its resources to ensure that at least 15% of the total housing stock is affordable to low income households, 15% affordable to moderate income households, and 15% is affordable to middle income households.” The change also stated that the new housing would be integrated into existing neighborhoods.
  • There was an election for City Council ward representatives. The winners were Rob Reed, Paul Haseman, Jim Dale, and Laura Weinberg.
  • The City bought the DeLong property on 23rd Street to build a city park for the East Street neighborhood.
  • Golden Beer Talks, then in its 5th year, featured Margaret Blaha discussing the Horse Protection League.
  • The School of Mines held their annual International Day celebration.
  • Mines Little Theater presented Dracula and Arcadia. Golden High School performed a series of one act plays, including The Proposal by Anton Chekov , Porcelain and Pink by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Abra Cadaver by John Mattera. Miners Alley Playhouse presented a new take on A Christmas Carol.
  • Casey Brown hosted Craft Beer with a Councilor at Cannonball Creek Brewing Company.
  • The former mortuary was on the market. The former laundromat was being remodeled to serve as the Colorado +49 Cidery.
  • Foothills Art Center opened their Holiday Art Market and the Colorado Railroad Museum opened the Polar Express.
  • During the schools’ Thanksgiving break, the Golden Library offered a series of Harry Potter-themed games, crafts, and movies.
  • Runners High sponsored their annual Great Turkey Chase Fun Run on Thanksgiving day.
  • Foothills Art Center held an Ugly Sweater Decorating Party as part of their Art on Tap series, sponsored by Golden City Brewery.
  • The Buffalo Rose closed for a massive remodeling.
