Museum, Theater, and Library Events Today

There’s a free concert today at noon in the Arthur Lakes Library (1400 Illinois St): Rebecca Flinthof – Songs of Love, Loss and Hope. Concerts in the Library are sponsored and organized by Arthur Lakes Library. All performances start at noon and take place in the Boettcher Room. Performances are free and open to the public. We encourage you to bring your lunch, sit back, relax, and enjoy music, poetry, theater, and other fine entertainments!

The Railroad Museum is offering a tour from 1-2PM. Today’s topic is Locomotives. The tour costs $3 in addition to regular admission.

The Quilt Museum is holding an Opening Reception tonight from 6-8PM. They have two new shows: It Takes Two to Tango: Collaboration Quilts and All in the Family: Family and Album Quilts from the RMQM Collection. Don’t miss your chance to see these new exhibits: the quilts are glorious!

Don’t forget: Miners Alley Playhouse is opening Lost in Yonkers (a Neil Simon play) this weekend. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30, and Sundays at 2PM. It runs through March 3rd.

Foothills Art Center’s new shows are now open to the public. They’re also offering a class tomorrow from 9AM-4PM: Hot Art, Basic Encaustic Techniques. This a high energy, hands-on encaustic workshop. We will explore a variety of encaustic techniques, including making medium and paint, prepping substrates, fusing wax, layering translucent color, adding and reducing texture, masking, stencils, mark making, image transfer techniques and more. No experience necessary, all materials provided, just bring your creativity (and a sack lunch) and go home with art. Register
