GURA, Beers, and Banjos

The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. Since the Central Neighborhoods urban renewal plan recommended that the city acquire land for a neighborhood park, the city is now asking GURA if they will consider contributing to the cost of the new park-to-be on 23rd Street. The board will also discuss their budget and work plan for 2018.  See the meeting packet for more information….

Rex Rideout - Golden Beer Talks - Golden Colorado

Tomorrow night’s Golden Beer Talk should be extra fun:  Rex Rideout will discuss History of the American West through Music and Lyrics.  Rex sings of the American West–from the times of the early explorers, the fur trade, the Civil War and the cattle drive era to the end of the 19th century– by re-creating documented music of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He approaches music as an historian, consulting manuscript materials, diaries and journals, early sheet music, historic photographs, vintage recordings and oral sources. Rex has worked with interpreters of historic sites, humanities councils and theatres in presentation of the life of the first cowboys.

Golden Beer Talks take place at Windy Saddle Cafe – 1110 Washington Ave (map). Food and beer will be available at 6:00 p.m., with our speaker starting around 6:35 p.m. Following the presentation, we’ll take a brief intermission for Q + A. We’ll wrap up around 7:45 p.m., so that the cafe can close by 8:00 p.m. There is no cover charge and no purchase is necessary.

Rex will be performing later this month at the Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering at the Mountaineering Center.
