Heritage Road – Eagle Ridge Drive Study
Roundabout Evaluation - Golden ColoradoThe community around Heritage Road has experienced much consternation about the new design and traffic calming measures on Heritage Road and Eagle Ridge Road.  A series of public meetings culminated in a request by the neighbors for a study by an independent engineering firm.  The assignment was to evaluate the road designs, see whether they meet accepted standards, and suggest improvements to make them safer and more drive-able.  The draft study, by Bohannan Huston, is now available on the city website.  Please review it and send comments to HeritageRAB@gmail.com.  They will collect comments until October 10th.

This is the final week to apply for Traxion’s Fall Accelerator Series.  This consists of five classes designed to help founders & teams create a focused business plan in a short time frame that is supported by customer feedback, a financial model and clear messaging. The five classes build on each other – so attendance at all is preferred.  Learn more and register….

The Golden History Center is offering a lecture today, from 1-2:30PM: Superstars in Colorado History History. Many famous people have lived in Colorado. We will look at the best of the best athletes, entrepreneurs, doctors, entertainers, artists, musicians and writers.

They have several other events lined up this fall, including a walking tour of the Colorado School of Mines at 11:30 on September 29th and The History of the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado on September 30th from 11AM-1PM. The KKK one is free, but seating is limited and it’s a popular topic, so reserve your seats early.

The Golden City Roots Walking Tour will take place on Tuesday October 3rd from 11:30AM-1PM.  Clear Creek is at the heart of Golden’s earliest history. Walk along the Clear Creek Trail in the center of Golden and enjoy the fall colors as we explore the history of Vanover Park, the Coors Brewery, Parfet Park, and Clear Creek History Park.

Their big annual fund-raiser, Black & White Night, is scheduled for October 6th. This is always a fun event. It got its name from the first year they did this, when they were celebrating putting their historic photo collection online…and of course, most of them are black & white. This year they’re raising funds for their planned remodeling of the museum. They will be closed for several months during 2018, so visit now, while you can. Tickets are $75 each or $140/pair. Attendees are encouraged to dress in black & white.

They’re offering Golden Cemetery Tours on October 26th and 28th. These tours usually sell out.

The History Center will join other museums in the Denver Metro area for Night at the Museums on November 4th. They will be open from 5-8PM with free admission.

On November 8th, author Randi Samuelson-Brown will lead a discussion on the 1890s world of prostitution, licit and illicit drugs, bad whiskey recipes and the saloon and brothel culture that flourished in Colorado. Her book The Beaten Territory will be for sale.

Finally, on November 30th retired Captain with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department will tell us about Murder and the Shanghair Prize Fight: Robert S. “Batt” Battalino. Robert S. “Batt” Battalino was a prize fighter who was good enough to star on the TV sports show The Greatest Fights of the Century, and was evil enough to commit murder in the foothills west of Golden. You will hear the story of Batt’s life, his crime, and the unusual bond he formed with the County Sheriff as he faced death in the gas chamber. Battalino was the first person executed for committing a crime in Jefferson County, Colorado.  Dennis’s lectures are always great and they’re always very well-attended. Get your tickets early.
