Cars, Bikes, and Carriages in Golden

This Morning:
Grateful Bread is open this morning, and if you get there early enough, you may get their extra-sour sourdough. The store is open from 10AM-2:30PM. They’re open only once a week, so if you’re not there by 2:30, you’ll need to wait another week. 425 Violet Street (map).

The Golden Farmer’s Market is open from 8AM-1PM at 10th and Illinois (west of the Library).

The Jeffco Sheriff’s Department is hosting the 2nd annual Cops and Classics Car Show tomorrow from 10AM-2PM, at 200 Jefferson County Parkway (map).

This Afternoon:
As mentioned yesterday, VFW Post 4171 (15625 W 10th Ave – map) is holding an open house this afternoon from 1-5PM.

Singletrack Sidewalks
Alex Head (the mountain-biker who wants to build a dirt trail parallel to the existing concrete trail though the Heritage Dells/Tripp Ranch/Stonebridge neighborhoods) will lead a walk-through of the proposed path this afternoon at 3PM. Meet at Kimball Avenue and Kinney Run Trail (map) to walk through the neighborhood segments. Learn about the vision of this proposal and hear answers to your questions.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, this is a highly-disputed topic.  The proponents of the trail think this is a great route for mountain bikes and that it will be a good place for children to learn the skill.  The opponents think there are already plenty of mountain bike trails in the area, and that mountain bikers do not share trails well: they’re scary to pedestrians and hard on wildlife.  There has been fierce debate on the topic on guidinggolden.com.  The opponents are circulating a petition, which can be signed online.

There will be a public meeting on this topic this Tuesday, August 28th, from 6-8PM at Shelton Elementary.  Learn more….

This Evening:
Only two more nights of Golden Weekends, the downtown evenings of carriage rides, street musicians, and extended hours in the stores.  Make sure you make it downtown tonight or next Friday (preferably both).  The carriages are running from 6-8 and the musicians will perform from 5-8.  Most of the stores will be open till 8PM and will be running sales and offering samples.

Tomorrow Morning:
The Golden Gran Fondo bike race will start in downtown Golden at 8AM.  Learn more….
