Golden has had light rail for 4 years now.  We like it, but many find that the service takes too long to get to their destination–particularly those who would like to take a bus to the train station at the Jeffco Government Center.  In order to make public transit work better for our residents, the City Council recently voted to fund an additional green circulator bus.  This would allow pickups to go from once every 30 minutes to once every 15 minutes.  They anticipate that the improved service would increase ridership on both the bus and the light rail.

The vote for the new bus took place on July 27th.  On August 10th, Golden’s representative to the RTD board visited Council and let them know that RTD planned to reduce the frequency of light rail service to Golden from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes (which would undo the effect of having more frequent bus service).

RTD is coming to Golden this Thursday (September 28th) to hold a public meeting to see what we think of their proposed service cuts.  It’s important that Golden citizens show up, to ask RTD to leave our train service intact.  Even if you don’t take the train yourself, consider that it helps keep a lot of cars off the roads.

City Council is going to delay the start of their own meeting till 7PM, so they all have a chance to speak to the RTD board and staff at the meeting.  Council encourages citizens to attend too.  The meeting will start at 6PM at the Community Center.  Learn more on the City’s website.
