Bikers, Cowboys, Museum-Goers, and More

The forecast says that the rain will clear out by this evening, and the temperatures will rise significantly by the end of week. We’ll be hurtling into July weather!

The Golden Gran Fondo bike event will start this morning, with participants checking in at Parfet Park from 5:30-7:15AM. Riders will meet under the arch at 7:45 and start at 8AM. There will be 3 routes of differing lengths, so there will be three awards ceremonies, at 1, 3, and 4PM in the park. This event takes place on public roads and riders must obey traffic laws, so I don’t think there will be any road closures after the 8AM start on Washington Avenue.

Under the M Farm Stand, in the Beverly Heights neighborhood, will be open from 9AM-12PM today. Mayor Marjorie Sloan will be there as a special guest. This is a great chance to buy some hyper-local produce, herbs, baked goods, eggs, etc. WHILE chatting with the Mayor herself!

Golden City Brewery is scheduled to host Summer Yoga on the Lawn at 10AM. This is a donation-based class, followed by Happy Hour pricing on beer.

The Buffalo Bill Museum will present Bill Cody and his sister Helen today from 1-4PM. The youngest Indian fighter on the plains: Buffalo Bill recounts how he went to work herding cattle at an early age and was attacked by Indians resulting in him being identified as “The youngest Indian fighter on the plains.” Big brother’s courage and decisiveness during the “Bleeding Kansas” era, as told by Helen Cody. Helen Cody Wetmore recalls the terrible events leading up to Kansas becoming a state and how her big brother Billy took on adult responsibilities. Her tales of Bill’s courage, decisiveness and determination show the early stages of the man he would become.
