Homesteaders and a Better Block

There are two good reasons to go downtown today:  Homesteaders’ Day at the Clear Creek History Park, and the Better Block Party on Miners Alley.

As part of a visioning process, Miners Alley will be transformed, for just one day, from a rather dreary alley used for deliveries into a vibrant, action-filled space.  We’re bringing in trees and flowers, music and drama. food and drink, and games.  Windy Saddle will be serving burritos.  The Golden Moon Speakeasy will have pulled pork sandwiches.  Food trucks will serve Indian food, funnel cakes, shaved ice, popcorn, cupcakes, and more.  There will be a beer garden behind the Old Capitol Grill, and a cocktail garden behind the Golden Moon Speakeasy.

There will be games and art projects for all ages.  A group of Golden kids will perform an abbreviated version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 10:30, and we’ll have live music all day.

If you would like to help with this project, you’re invited to come in the morning to help set up, stay in the evening for tear-down, or ask at the check-in desk during the day if there’s something you can do to help.

This will be a busy day downtown, with both Homesteaders’ Day and the Better Block Party, so consider walking or riding a bike.  If you’re driving, remember the free parking structures on Jackson Street, just north and south of 12th.

People will be down there setting up at 8 AM and tearing it down at 8 PM.  It’s going to happen, rain or shine, so spend some time observing, enjoying, and imbibing.  Tomorrow, it will all be back to normal.  As our young Shakespearean performers might say,

If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber’d here
While these visions did appear.
